The Pilgrim's Credential

The credential is the official pilgrim’s passport and certifies that you are walking the Cammino dei Cappuccini. Always carry it with you, it is essential: thanks to it, you can access the pilgrim accommodations, which are affiliated lodging and dining facilities offering discounted prices to pilgrims.

At each stage, remember to have the stamp of the place reached affixed: the stamps certify the completed route and, at the end of the pilgrimage, allow you to receive the Testimonium, the final parchment that certifies the completion of the Cammino. The credential is also a precious keepsake: browsing through it over time will bring back memories of the experience.

How to obtain it

We prefer to hand over the credential in person: from the friars themselves in Fossombrone (WhatsApp message to 366-48.90.258) and in Camerino (WhatsApp message to 338-92.89.046), or from volunteers along the route. It is a way to immediately feel the closeness of the Capuchin fraternity. We believe that human contact is a value to be preserved, and that it also passes through these small gestures. Only if necessary, we will send it to your home.

By filling out the form, which takes only a minute, we can provide you with all the useful information; in response, you will also receive ten essential guidelines to read before you leave.

To receive credentials for two or more people (also for groups), a single form is sufficient, indicating in the field “Pilgrims walking with me” the names of the other participants.

Artistic stamps

The stamps of the Cammino dei Cappuccini are small works of art created by the skilled hand of Brother Fabio Furiasse. Each stamp depicts the most significant episodes of the novel The Spirit of the Capuchins, following the narrative of each stage and transforming your credential into a unique pilgrim’s diary. In this way, it becomes a unique and precious memory of the journey.

Every time you receive a stamp, it will be like capturing a fragment of the journey, a tangible memory of the places visited, the stories encountered, and the spirit of the Capuchins that accompanies you every step.

You can find the stamps in the accommodations indicated on the site for each stage; if they are not available, you will still find them at the Pro Loco, IAT points, or bars indicated on this page.

The Testimonium

What is the Testimonium
The Testimonium is the document that certifies the completed pilgrimage. Its origin dates back to medieval pilgrimages: often a long journey was undertaken, facing risks and expenses, because it was imposed by a judge or as a penance by the confessor. In those cases, it was necessary to prove that the destination had been reached to obtain absolution or remission of civil or canonical penalties.

Today, without such obligations, the Testimonium becomes a precious memory of a significant experience: an evocative document of the journey and all the emotions, thoughts, and sensations that accompanied your steps, transforming the journey into an important event for your life.

Where to receive it
The Testimonium is issued exclusively at the convent in Ascoli Piceno, the final destination, after having walked at least 100 km (about 5 stages). The stamps affixed to the Credential will serve as proof.

Receiving the Testimonium with a thanksgiving liturgy together with the Capuchin friars, in front of the tomb of Saint Seraphin in Ascoli Piceno, is a moment of great suggestion and spiritual depth. In addition, pilgrims can communicate a little in advance their participation in the Pilgrim’s Mass, which is celebrated every afternoon at 6:15 PM. In this case, the presence of each pilgrim is noted, and they will receive a special blessing, thus making the completion of the journey an intimate and memorable experience.
